Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Maryland

     Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a rapidly growing discipline within mixed martial arts. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (often spelled as Brazilian Ju Jitsu) is largely the same thing as other mixed martal arts. As with all other subdisciplines of mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has its own unique focuses. BBJ concentrates on grappling and ground fighting using chokeholds and joint locks. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allow people that do not have great size and strength to successfully defeat larger opponents by using moves to create leverage.

     While the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu craze is new to Maryland, the art began in Japan in very similar fashion to what is taught today over 100 years ago.
